Ultrasound Diagnostics

Ultrasound Diagnostics(commonly referred to as USG or ultrasound) is, so far, an irreplaceable, widely available, and the safest medical imaging method for the Patient. It is based on mechanical ultrasonic waves which are used to obtain detailed images of the human body's interior. An extension of ultrasound diagnostics is a modality called: Doppler ultrasound. Doppler techniques are routinely used to assess flow in both venous and arterial vessels. Unlike X-ray examinations or computed tomography (CT), ultrasound does not utilize ionizing radiation, which means it can be performed repeatedly without risk to the Patient's health, including in pregnant women.

INTRODUCTION

Ultrasound examination allows for real-time imaging (in vivo). For the diagnosing physician or phlebologist, it is an indispensable tool—unparalleled in both organ and vascular diagnostics. US examination enables anatomical assessment, as well as dynamic assessment to evaluate the movement of organs (e.g., the heart or intestines) and blood flow (Doppler ultrasound)

Among the ultrasound examinations, a special place is occupied by Doppler ultrasound - the true "game-changer" in venous diagnostics. Why is it so unique? Because it allows us not only to "see" your vessels but also to check how blood flows through them.

The whole magic lies in the so-called Doppler effect.The principle is simple: ultrasonic waves reflect off the moving blood cells, thereby changing their frequency—somewhat like the sound of an ambulance approaching us and then moving away. When blood flows toward the transducer (probe), the frequency increases. When it flows away, it decreases. Thanks to these changes, we can accurately assess the speed and direction of blood flow in your veins.

It is precisely this examination that allows us in modern phlebology to precisely diagnose problems with the venous circulatory system and to plan the best course of treatment. Without Doppler ultrasound, we would be like a driver operating in the dark—we could guess, but we wouldn't see the full picture of the situation.

AREAS OF APPLICATION FOR MODERN ULTRASOUND

In contemporary medicine, ultrasonography finds widespread application.
Wykorzystywana jest m.in. w:

  • The diagnosis of venous and arterial vascular diseases;
  • Organ examinations (e.g., assessment of the abdominal cavity, including the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and spleen);
    trzustki, nerek czy śledziony);
  • The assessment of the mammary glands, salivary glands, thyroid, and lymph nodes;
  • The diagnosis of changes in soft tissues;
  • Examinations of the musculoskeletal system;
  • Monitoring the course of pregnancy;
  • The diagnosis of heart diseases (echocardiography);
  • The detection and monitoring of neoplastic changes (tumors).

ADVANTAGES OF MODERN ULTRASOUND

  • Patient safety;
  • Absence of ionizing radiation;
  • Ability to repeat the examination multiple times (for monitoring the disease;
    or post-procedure assessment)
  • Real-time imaging in various body positions or
    respiratory phases;
  • Minimal invasiveness and painlessness;
  • No need for special preparation for most examinations (for some
    examinations, one must arrive fasting and with a full urinary bladder);
  • Widespread availability and relatively low cost compared
    to other imaging methods like MR examination;
  • Ability to perform examinations in pregnant women and small children.

WHAT SETS US APART

At the Phlebology Clinic in Warsaw, we utilize the most modern ultrasound equipment, which, combined with the experience of our specialists, enables precise diagnostics. We place particular emphasis on venous system diagnostics. Ultrasonography is fundamental to the progress of modern phlebology. We utilize it at the stages of initial diagnosis, diagnostic assessment, intra-procedural evaluation, monitoring treatment outcomes, and assessing disease progression.

At our Clinic, US examinations are performed by experienced phlebologists and specialists in radiology and diagnostic imaging. Furthermore, we offer our Patients:

  • Comprehensive diagnostics – ranging from Doppler ultrasound to magnetic resonance (MR) imaging;
  • Expert evaluation of results and detailed interpretation of examinations by specialists;
  • Individualized treatment plans tailored to your health situation;
  • The greatest experience in Poland in the diagnosis and causal treatment of venous diseases;
  • Holistic approach – we treat the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.

Our focus is on modern diagnostic imaging treatment based on the latest medical knowledge. Thanks to this, we can effectively help Patients with diverse problems of the venous system.
